Second draft of double page spread story
Cara Young
Stand first:
She has taken over the internet world and is now slowly taking over the real world, but what makes this heavenly-voiced angel so damn good?
Article:
At the enormously dark studio in Ealing, West London we caught up Cara Young having a photo shoot for her upcoming album. The 19 year old internet sensation was rocking her dark make-up and a tartan dress whilst breaking the silence with a nicotine fulled cough. "I'm going to need a break now" puffed Cara whilst walking towards us. "These boots are absolutely killing me," she sighs as she sits down ready for her first exclusive interview. Cara Young, only had her YouTube account up for 6 months has already earned herself over 5 million views on all of her videos. "I still don't believe it" she replied "I honestly thought I'd only get about 50 views from my friends and family." Cara's main inspiration to start a singing career was her favourite artist, Lana Del Rey. "I think she [Lana] is an amazing artist. Truly remarkable. It would be an absolute honor to work with her if I ever got the chance." Cara has covered many of her songs on YouTube such as National Anthem and Young and Beautiful. "Her songs gives me inspiration" explains Cara. Cara has also covered many songs by other artists of the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Jake Bugg and The Vaccines. "They are also my favourite band" Cara expresses her thoughts on the Arctic Monkeys. "One day I will be as popular as they are" giggles Cara, but putting the jokes aside, with an angelic voice and a fast growing fan base like hers anything is possible. "My first album is going to be very exciting. I cannot wait for all my fans to hear it, and for others to hear it too and hopefully enjoy my music." Cara inserts her cigarette between her lips. "I've played a few little gigs here and there covering some songs, also singing some songs that I have written myself that unfortunately haven't made it onto my first album." puffs Cara, "but there's always room for the next one!" Ever since Cara has become popular, many people have been asking quite personal questions. "I understand that fans would want to know everything about a certain artist/band when they are new to the scene," explains Cara, "but sometimes it gets too personal. But I can say that I am currently single though, and I do not plan to get a boyfriend anytime soon. I have to focus on my career." Cara Young respectable approach to relationships will be a great influence for her youthful fans. We moved to a little boxed room to carry on our interview after Cara finished off her photo shoot. The white walls were much more calming and intimate than the massive studio full of darkness. "I'm very excited to start my own mini-tour when my album is complete" announced Cara with excitement. "I'll be doing Glastonbury this year as well, on the other stage. I'm also very thrilled about that." Cara has dreamt of being at Glastonbury since the age of 14. "I've always wanted to go and see the acts play and be a part of the audience" chuckled Cara, "but now I'm actually playing at Glastonbury! Madness!" Cara has achieved her success very quickly, considering she hasn't even published her own debut album. "My album will be out in March, hopefully." giggles Cara while sipping her cup full of sprite. "I always get tempted to sing my songs aloud when I am out and about, but I have to stop myself, obviously I'd be one of the only artists that could potentially leak their own album." Snickers Cara, she laughs a little too much and ends up having a laughing fit. Casual. Cara has announced that she will be supporting one of her favourite artists on their tour: Jake Bugg! "He's a great guy" Cara says, "I really enjoy his company. We have the same sense of humour and music taste, obviously." Cara and Jake have been speaking since he has heard her cover of 'Seen It All.' "When he followed me on Twitter I literally screamed" giggles Cara, feeling a little ashamed. "After that we just started talking and really clicked." A lot of people have said that they would be a very cute couple. "People on the internet have been 'shipping' (where you want two certain people to be together in a relationship) but we're just friends." Explained Cara. Shame that those two aren't really together, they would have been the equivalent to Beyonce and Jay-Z, just, an Indie Rock version of them.

Shot list for content page picture
I have chosen to use a picture from The Vaccines gig for my content page to make a mini article. The photograph will be of the main singer with one of the guitarists playing to each other, so it will be a mid action shot. The angle of my camera will be landscape but I won't be able to use a tripod to take this photograph as there will be too many people. I will have to reach my hand up to take this photograph as there are people who are taller than me in front of me, and it won't be possible to do it any other way.
Shot list for photo shoot
For my photo shoot I would like the model to do different types of poses. There will only be two different angles I will take the photographs in.
Front cover
For my front cover I asked the model to do a specific pose. The model will lean forward while holding the guitar in her arms making the guitar point towards the floor. I will hold my camera in a portrait way, the camera won't be zoomed into the model to have a close-up shot, I will zoom it out a bit to have a long-shot. I will point my camera down at the model as she will be shorter than me because she is leaning over forward.
Double page spread
For my double page spread I will have three photographs that are landscape. For all of these pictures I will use a tripod to keep the camera steady while taking these pictures. My first photograph i will have the model holding the cigarette in her hand while looking away, but she is not looking at her cigarette. Another photograph will be with her actually having the cigarette in her mouth, this time the model will be looking down at the cigarette. The last photograph will have the model holding the acoustic guitar, but while she is holding the acoustic guitar she will look like she is about to play, she will also have her eyes focused on the guitar. She will have the cigarette in her mouth.

Costumes and props research
I have made a mood board of different costumes I may want to use for my photo shoot. I have chosen these specific outfits as I think that many females in the Indie Rock genre would wear these kinds of clothing, and they are from shops who promote these artists music e.g. Urban Outfitters sells records by London Grammar in their shops and Hannah Reid usually wears clothing from the shop. I've chosen to research Doc Marten boots mainly as I think that many females in the genre mainly wear boots, Doc Martens are very fashionable and go with any outfit. I've researched a range of lipsticks from Topshop as their lipsticks are mainly dark colours, and many artists wear darker make-up to link it to their genre of music.
Props
I have researched acoustic guitars for props because females in the Indie Rock genre usually play the guitar, either an acoustic one or an electric guitar or even bass. I chose to focus more on an acoustic guitar because it's the most preferable instrument in this genre for an artist that isn't in a band. I have also researched cigarettes for props as most artists in this genre smoke during their photo shoots or even performing. I have only looked at unlit cigarettes as it is more appropriate for my magazine.

Location Planning
I have chosen my location to just be at my house. I have used a blank screen for my photo shoot as it looks more professional, and I will be saying that I have interviewed my artist at one of her photo shoots. I have chosen this location because it would be much more professional than doing it outdoors or anywhere else.
Equipment, costumes and props for my photo shoot
Equipment
For my photo shoot I will take my photographs with my DSLR Nikon D3200 camera with flash and I will have a blank white wall so my model can stand in front of it making her the main focus. I will use photoshop to edit my photographs before forming my magazine.
Costumes
My model will be wearing the same costume throughout the photo shoot. My model will be wearing a tartan dress, tights, PVC Doc Marten boots and some dark make-up e.g. lipstick and mascara.

Typography
I have used the website dafont.com to try and see which types of fonts I would like to use as my logo for my magazine. The left hand side are more funky than the ones towards the right, mostly music magazines have quite a basic font for their logo. Magazines like Q and NME have just a simple bold font. I think these simple fonts are quite effective because they don't require to be right in your face, as they mainly want to promote the artists on the cover, and readers usually buy magazines because their favourite bands/artists are on the cover. I have chosen to use the colour black as it is relevant the genre of the music that will be in my magazine. My favourite fonts are probably the ones in the middle and on the right.
After playing around with which fonts I would like to use I have chosen three of my favourite fonts to start creating my logo. I have put a red rectangular background because magazines like Q and NME use them which makes them very effective but simple, I also thought it would make the logo stand out more. I have finally concluded that my chosen logo for the magazine will be the middle one. I think that it's not as basic as the other two but isn't too irrelevant for my magazine. Inside my magazine I will use a range of different fonts and sizes to show variety. Also I will name my magazine RHM (Red Hot Music) so I will include the name 'Red Hot Music' underneath the abreviation to make it clear to the reader what the magazine is called.
I have researched on DaFont fonts for my artists name on the front cover. I got inspiration to make the font curly from Q's magazine December issue. As I was researching I have concluded that these three fonts are the fonts I have liked the most.
Between these three fonts I have chosen two that I like the best; the one on the left and the middle one. These two fonts work well on where I would like to place the font on my front cover.
I have researched on DaFont which fonts I would like to use as my titles for my cover stories. The three fonts I liked the most are the ones on the left hand side. The font I will more likely use for my cover story titles is the top left font. I have added more fonts to show a variety of different fonts onto my magazine.

Readers profile
The people who will be reading my magazine will have to listen to the genre Indie Rock. They would be similar readers to NME, the target audience is adolescents and adults. My target audience would also be a mixture of both males and females. Although I've looked at magazines such as Q and NME and they both include advertisements which are mainly for males (male perfume adverts) but they also advertise other products which females could also own. These magazines mainly talk about music, which doesn't really matter what gender reads it. My own magazine articles won't be as sophisticated as Q magazine, but the target audience are mainly going to be more mature people. The demographic audience of my magazine would be in category E because the magazine is mainly targeted at students and young adults.

Representation of males and females in Indie Rock
The genre Indie Rock mainly consists of male artists who are mainly in bands such as Arctic Monkeys, The Vaccines, The Neighbourhood, Two Door Cinema Club, Kasabian and Foals. There are also male artists who aren't in bands such as Jake Bugg and Miles Kane. Although there are mainly males there are also female artists such as Gemma Hayes, Lana Del Rey, Laura Marling and Emily Haines. But there are also female artists in bands such as Nanna Brydis Hilmarsdottir (Of Monsters & Men), Zooey Deschanel (She & Him), Elizabeth Mitchell, Karla Schickele, Jean Cook, Ruth Keating (Ida), Elena Tonra (Daughter) and Hannah Reid (London Grammar).
Majority of the Indie Rock audience is male, but there are also female fans of Indie Rock music. Their audiences are also over the age of 16 as mostly Indie Rock bands have their audience in mosh pits during their shows, most of the people participating in the mosh pits are male.
Males and females in Indie Rock are mainly presenting their music, not trying to show their sexuality like Pop Music would. Artist from this genre don't really appear in the charts but they still do have quite a wide range audience for example Arctic Monkeys are gradually becoming the biggest band in Britain. The females in Indie Rock do not show their sexuality as much as females in Pop Music but they do show some such as Lana Del Rey. Usually both males and females in this genre are photographed with cigarettes. This shows that if the audience were younger they'd also want to smoke as they are very impressionable, but as their audience is older they will understand that they don't have to do everything their favourite artist does. Both genders style is very important, they both wear very fashionable clothing. Females style is mainly Hippie Chic, Eclectic, Vintage, Bohemian and Hipster. Males usually wear skinny jeans (black), tops/shirts, vans or converse or beanies too. Males style can be quite Hipster and Vintage.
